10 Small, Fun Projects For Your Day Off Recipes from The Kitchn

If you are starting work again as usual on Monday, my condolences. For the rest of you with a three-day weekend, let's do something fun! What about a cooking project — just a small one! — that you can make and eat all in one day? I'm thinking about fresh pasta or a batch of hand-pleated Asian dumplings for dinner. Or maybe some soft pretzels that we can dip into mustard while still warm from the oven. Granola bars? Marshmallows, maybe? What sounds good to you?

Here are ten projects that will stretch your skills juuuust a little bit, but they're still totally doable in a few hours and still totally fun. Maybe some of these have been on your list for a while, like trying your hand at homemade pasta or making ricotta from scratch. Or today might be the day you finally try your hand at cheese gougères (totally worth it!) or homemade vanilla marshmallows (a million times better than store bought).
Want something super quick and fun? Homemade peanut butter and oven-crisped tortilla chips have your name all over them. Or maybe you just want something fun, full stop. In that case, I've included an extra treat just for you: homemade jello shots. Oh, yes! Don't knock 'em until you try 'em.
What will you be doing today?
