DIY'ing gorgeous solid surface custom concrete countertops, including a waterfall edge.
Time: 4 Days
Cost: $1000
Difficulty: Moderate
BEFORE: The kitchen featured an
Ikea laminate counter & brown backsplash that had seen better days.
They we're removed to add in a new large single bowl sink, custom
concrete counters and a new subway tile backsplash
The first step was making
templates. Small pieces of thin wood were used to map out the size and
contours of the new countertops.
Using the templates as guides, forms were made using melamine.
After the templates were made, the
concrete (Buddy Rhodes Countertop Mix) was mixed up ready for pouring.
The concrete was mixed to a thick consistency, and hand packed into the forms.
The concrete cured overnight, and the next day it was filled, and wet sanded.
Wet sanding is a messy job!
After the counters were sanded, they were sealed with an acrylic sealer, and installed.
